Transforming a house into an apartment building too often means sacrificing many heritage elements. The parcel's particular position, facing the street on two sides, is here leveraged by a vertical circulation separated from the inner historic building mass. Both the material elements and the spatiality specific to the Brussels bourgeois single-family house are thus preserved for the dwelling occupying the first two floors. It can benefit from the precious additional space offered by the opening onto the former inner stairwell. As for the upper dwelling, access is via the roof, through the external staircase and a walkway. The two duplexes function as two separate houses, each with its own entrance.
